MANILA, Philippines – Another blaze hit Ever Gotesco Grand Central Mall in Caloocan City on Wednesday night, an official said.
Bureau of Fire Proection – National Capital Region (NCR) Officer Louie Abinales said another fire started at the 5th floor of the mall at around 8:55 p.m., producing thick smoke and causing panic among residents near the structure.
The fire was eventually put out at 9:37 p.m.
Several firemen are still on standby in case another fire occurs.
The fire started at 10:40 p.m. on March 16 (Friday) and lasted until March 20 (Tuesday). Firemen had a hard time extinguishing the blaze reportedly due to lack of equipment and the presence of highly combustible materials inside the mall.
The massive blaze, which left at least 17 injured, prompted the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) to order an investigation into the incident.
Caloocan fire chief Oscar de Asis, meanwhile, was sacked by DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo for allegedly being drunk when the fire erupted. – reports from Dennis Datu and Johnson Manabat, dzMM
