MANILA, Philippines - At least 6 protesting workers were wounded during an unruly demonstration in front of the Goldilocks' main bakeshop along Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong City on Friday morning.

Joel Lachica, leader of the protesting bakeshop workers, identified those hurt as Danilo Gicawa, Canuto Barba, Adolfo Monaog, Roberto Carawalan, Ronald Macalalad and Ruel Mandaluyong.

Lachica said the violent confrontation took place around 10 a.m. while the strikers were trying to prevent a truck carrying new workers from entering the factory's gates.

He said the new workers were the replacement of 127 employees earlier sacked from their jobs for an allegedly illegal protest in May 2008.

Lachica said one of the security guards threw sand at the strikers, which sparked violence.

Strikers and the security guards, aided by the bakeshop's loyal workers, threw rocks at each other. The confrontation stalled traffic along Shaw Boulevard for several minutes.

Both camps were pacified after anti-riot policemen stepped in.
