The lawyer of former intelligence officer Cezar Mancao on Wednesday stood pat on Mancao's position that he should be admitted as state witness against fugitive Sen. Panfilo Lacson in the Dacer-Corbito double murder case pending at the Manila Regional Trial Court branch 18.
The trial court, presided by Judge Thelma Bunyi Medina, heard today the issue on whether to still hear Mancao's motion to be admitted as state witness following the Court of Appeals' decision that junked the murder complaints versus Lacson.
In the appellate court's decision, the court said Mancao, who implicated Lacson in the killing, was not a credible and trustworthy witness.
Mancao's lawyer, Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, said his client's request to be admitted as state witness should not be affected by the appellate court's ruling because said ruling is not yet final and executory.
The Dacers, Solicitor-General's office and Mancao filed separate motions for reconsideration seeking a reversal of the ruling.
Mancao's MR has yet to be entertained by the court, which has first to rule on his motion to intervene.
Mancao filed a motion to intervene since he is not a party to the case.
The petition for certiorari filed by Lacson is against the Dacers, the justice department and Manila RTC branch 18.
