MANILA, Philippines – A jobless man was arrested by Manila police on Sunday for shoplifting women’s underwear from SM San Lazaro in Sta. Cruz, Manila.
The suspect, identified as Francis Salazar, 24, was caught with 76 pieces of branded brassieres stuffed in his backpack.
According to Superintendent James Afalla, commander of Manila Police District Station 3, the store’s alarm sensors went off when Salazar exited, prompting the security guard on duty to apprehend him.
Guards said Salazar hid the stolen underwear in his backpack and other parts of his body.
Police said the stolen bras are worth P26,000.
Salazar said he was pushed to shoplifting because he needed money to feed his baby. He said he was planning to sell the bras for P100 each.
The suspect is facing charges of theft at the Manila Prosecutor’s Office. -- With a report from Alex Santos, ABS-CBN News
