MANILA – The Bureau of Customs seized at least P800 million worth of fake goods in two warehouses allegedly owned by the family of Parañaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez.

The Bureau of Customs Intelligence Group, led by Deputy Commissioner Jessie Dellosa, said the fake goods were discovered in two warehouses in a compound in Barangay San Dionisio, Parañaque City on Tuesday.

The compound is owned by the family of Mayor Olivarez and his father, former mayor and now Barangay San Dionisio chairman Pablo Olivarez.

Dellosa said the contraband included fake shoes, bags and luggage, and other apparel.

Some 50 sacks of refined powder were also seized. The undetermined powder will undergo chemical analysis.

Dellosa said the consignees of the fake goods will face charges for violating the Tariff and Customs Code of the Philippines, and Republic Act 8293 or the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines. – report from Dennis Datu, dzMM
