MANILA – Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Sixto Brillantes on Friday witnessed the signing of a covenant for clean elections and campaign between rival Manila mayoralty candidates Joseph ‘Erap’ Estrada and Alfredo Lim at the Manila Police District Headquarters.

All the candidates for city positions in Manila were present and pledged to obey all election laws.

Brillantes pointed out that both Lim and Estrada were at one point his clients as election lawyer.

Estrada said he will have a friendly fight with Lim so long as there are no dirty tricks.

In an ambush interview, the former President also called on President Benigno Aquino III to ensure clean elections.

"Hindi lang daang matuwid, kung ‘di daang maganda," he said.

Estrada said he, Vice President Jejomar Binay and Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile have not yet met on the possible exclusion of senators Loren Legarda and Francis ‘Chiz’ Escudero and Grace Poe from their slate as guest candidates.

He noted that Poe and Legarda sent representatives to their Cebu proclamation while Escudero failed to send one.
