MANILA – Authorities on Friday raided warehouses in Pasay and Parañaque Cities holding counterfeit items.

Counterfeit items worth at least P550 million were discovered inside a 6-story warehouse in Barangay 77, Pasay, according to Atty Jerome Turga, a legal officer from the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL).

Turga said the counterfeit items include baby shampoos, baby wipes, shoes, slippers, apparel and perfumes.

The seized items allegedly came from China, as the boxes containing them had Chinese characters on it. A Chinese national using a different name was also behind the illegal operation.

Authorities said a security agency at the building's first floor was used as a front for the illegal operations.

In Parañaque, at least P70 million worth of fake footwear, apparel, toiletries and perfumes were seized in Tambo, Parañaque.

Officials from the IPOPHL, National Bureau of Investigation and Bureau of Customs said the seized items will be destroyed to prevent them from reentering the market. – reports Johnson Manabat and Dexter Ganibe, dzMM
