MANILA (UPDATED) - A passenger bus caught fire along the northbound lane of EDSA Ayala on Wednesday afternoon.
Photos posted by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Twitter showed the Manrose bus being engulfed by flames on the flyover approaching Buendia.
According to the MMDA, the fire was put out at 5:24 p.m. The flyover was cleared at 5:55 p.m.
Speaking to ANC's "Top Story," Cris Almirol of the MMDA Metrobase said there were no casualties in the blaze.
The bus, however, was totally damaged.
The driver of the bus said the fire started from the rear portion of the vehicle. He suspects it was caused by the unit's compressor.
He said all passengers of the bus bound for Fairview were able to disembark before the fire grew big.
Meanwhile, aside from traffic, operations of the MRT were also affected by the incident after debris of the burnt bus hit the cables of the train system.
The MRT is now operating only from Shaw Boulevard to North Avenue and vice versa. -- With a report from Henry Atuelan, dzMM
