MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) - Carjackers struck in Makati City on Wednesday, taking a Toyota Land Cruiser owned by a cousin of former Senator Mar Roxas.
Senior Superintendent Fernan Bonifacio, Makati City police chief, said 2 gunmen forcibly took the black Toyota Land Cruiser (ZTG-747) from its driver, Roberto Villanueva, while parked along Dela Rosa Street in Legaspi Village.
In an interview on radio dzMM, the vehicle's owner, businesswoman Margarita "Gaita" Araneta Fores, said that her driver was just waiting for her to exit her restaurant when the the carjackers struck before 1 a.m. Wednesday.
She said that according to her driver, one of the carjackers pointed a gun at his neck and the other one threatened to shoot him in the body.
"Ibigay mo ang susi sa amin kundi tutuluyan ka namin," Fores said, repeating the carjackers' threat to her driver.
She said that the carjackers also took her driver's cellphone before escaping with her Toyota Land Cruiser.
The incident happened as police were scrambling to identify and arrest the suspected car thieves who killed and abducted 2 car dealers, including the son of lawyer Oliver Lozano.
Police said that the suspects in the killing of the 2 car dealers could be members of only one group based in Central Luzon. -- Report from Dexter Ganibe, radio dzMM
