MANILA, Philippines - House Deputy Speaker Crispin Remulla believes an insider from the Supreme Court, possibly another magistrate, may have had a hand in the impeachment of Chief Justice Renato Corona.

Remulla said this is based on one of the grounds against Corona, in particular, the disbursements of judiciary funds. "Kung pinag-uusapan gastos, may insider na yan, may taga-loob nakakalap ng impormasyon. Di naman pwede malaman yan ng walang kausap sa loob."

When asked if the insider could be another justice, Remulla said, "Posible, di natin masasabi, ganun talaga mundo natin."

Court Administrator and Supreme Court Spokesman Jose Midas Marquez refused to comment on this for now.

When reminded that Corona and Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio have a history of conflict, Remulla laughed and said, "Tila meron sila. Mas kilala ko si Justice Carpio, naging professor ko yan.”

Remulla also revealed President Aquino met with House coalition leaders about the impeachment. "Yes, pero di ako kasama, I wasn't part."

He said Aquino supposedly told the coalition leaders that he doesn’t mind letting it be known that he is for the impeachment.

For his part, Remulla said he was not one of the 188 who signed the impeachment complaint.

"Unang-una, sa totoo lang, di ko pa nababasa ang complaint. I’ve been asking for copy. I still haven't gotten a copy. I cannot affix my signature in a document I haven't read. Mahirap ang blind faith,” he said.

Remulla said the impeachment is a reminder to other justices of the court. "Tama yun, ang nangyayari kasi parang sinasampolan. It sends chilling effect to other justices, kung pwede tirahin pinakamataas, kayo pa.”

Remulla explained why the complaint did not hold other justices accountable for collegial actions of the court. “Di siya malakas na argumento at kung yun basehan mo, baka makahanap sila ng desisyon na di akma sa pattern, sira na agad argument.”
