MANILA, Philippines - President Aquino urged former President Arroyo to tell everything she knows about the allegations of corruption during the past administration, saying there is still time “to rectify what has been done.”
“She was given the opportunity to lead the country for nine and a half years. I was in the opposition. I don’t think she led us properly. Time is still present. Perhaps she can rectify what has been done by helping us really achieve the reforms and the transformation of the society by telling us what exactly was done, how it was done, what were the loopholes… exploited, and so on and so forth,” Aquino said during a forum with journalist-members of Bulong Pulungan forum.
This was his answer to a query from journalist Jullie Yap Daza on what his Christmas wish would be for the former President, Chief Justice Renato Corona, and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
Aquino also had the following wish for Chief Justice Corona: “For the Chief Justice—and with all due respect—perhaps he can revisit the oath that we all in government have to undertake and remember exactly to whom he made the promise to and what was promised.”
Aquino expressed hope that the government and the MILF would “get closer and closer to that meeting of the minds.”
He said that even if there are differences in the “semantics” and “phraseology” in the peace negotiations, “in substance, we are on the same level and the same plane.”
He said both the government and the MILF have the same goal, which is the attainment of just peace.
