MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has created its own team that will hunt down the elusive Senator Panfilo Lacson.

Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo said the tracker team will be composed of members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

This will be different from the NBI-created team that is now doing its own tracking into the whereabouts of the slippery senator.

Robredo did not give further details, opting to keep to themselves their strategies.

He did not set any deadline for the tracker team.

Justice Secretary Leila de Lima earlier set a deadline for the NBI to pursue Lacson, who is allegedly in the country to elude authorities.

He is wanted for the deaths of publicist Salvador “Bubby” Dacer and driver Emmanuel Corbito.

The NBI team has already failed twice in its ongoing manhunt against Lacson. The team raided a paper factory in Quezon City and 3 houses in Batangas over the weekend.

Lacson earlier said he will not surrender until justice is served or, in his own words, “when I’m already dead.”

In a statement, he said the government should rather to opt to study again his case. – from a report by Dennis Datu, dzMM
