MANILA, Philippines - The judge handling the electoral sabotage case filed against former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo assures the public that there will be no special treatment for the former chief executive.
"Walang VIP treatment. Ang papairalin lang natin dito ay rule of law," Judge Jesus Mupas of Pasay Regional Trial Court branch 112 said in an ambush interview.
"Pinaghahandaan natin to and the public can rest assured na ang gagawin natin ay kung ano lang ang nararapat."
Mupas admitted that this is the biggest case of his life, and has unavoidably affected his routine.
He said the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has assigned him security personnel in consideration of the high profile case he is handling.
"Meron na akong kasama ngayon, di tulad ng dati. Nagbago ang routine ko ng konti. May mga kaibigan na tumatawag nagpapaalala na mag-ingat," Mupas confided.
The judge also said he would rather refrain from watching news reports about the case as he does not want to compromise his judgement.
"Parang gusto ko wag na lang manood para di maimpluwensiyahan ng lumalabas sa media," he said.
