MANILA, Philippines - The Palace disputed the statement of analyst Peter Wallace that President Benigno Aquino III lacks the political will to push for reforms, pointing out that other institutions have hinged their confidence on him.

"Everything that has happened in the past, in the more than two years that the President has been in office, belies that claim," deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said.

Wallace, head of The Wallace Business Forum, reportedly called on Aquino to be more presidential and work beyond office hours.

Valte said Aquino already does that.

"Hindi ho magagawa ng Pangulo 'yung mga na-achieve natin in the last two years and more kung isa po siyang 9-to-5 na Presidente," she said.

"It is safe to assume that Mr. Wallace does not have a working relationship with the President and has no personal knowledge of how the President works. Because if you ask anybody who has come in close contact-close and regular contact with the President-they will tell you otherwise."

The spokesperson urged Wallace to visit the website of the Department of Budget and Management to see the government's spending and disbursements on infrastructure projects.

She also asked Wallace to look beyond surveys and visit actual beneficiaries of the conditional cash transfer program to see what the government has done.
