MANILA, Philippines - The United States is distancing itself from the position taken by President Aquino not to allow former President Arroyo to seek medical treatment abroad while she faces charges of corruption and election sabotage.
Asked during a press conference in Malacanang about what she thought about the issue given the United States’ strong advocacy for human rights, transparency and accountability, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said it would not be appropriate for her to make a comment.
“This is obviously a matter for the authorities of the Philippine government and all of its branches and it would not be appropriate for me as a Secretary of State to comment any further,” Clinton said.
