MANILA, Philippines - The joint Department of Justice-Commission on Elections preliminary investigation committee has terminated its proceedings on the electoral sabotage complaint against former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, her husband, and 41 others.
The case is now ready for resolution.
Earlier on Monday, the lawyer of former First Gentleman Mike Arroyo expressed dismay and walked out of the proceedings.
Lawyer Ferdinand Topacio had asked the committee to defer the proceedings absent a resolution from the Supreme Court.
The Arroyo camp on Friday filed a petition before the high court, saying the probe is illegal and unconstitutional.
“We are thus asking that the preliminary investigation be deferred out of reverence and respect to the Highest Court of the land, and we have filed the corresponding motion to that effect,” he had said.-- with a report from Ina Reformina, ABS-CBN News
