MANILA - Will it be a Manny Villar-Loren Legarda tandem in the May 2010 elections?
Sen. Loren Legarda on Thursday gave a hint about her running mate when she said during an interview with ABS-CBN News that "green and orange" would be a good combination.
"Masugid ang panliligaw ng dalawang kampo, kay [Defense Secretary Gilbert] Teodoro at kay Villar, pero mas magandang kumbinasyon ang green at orange (The camps of Teodoro and Villar are still courting me, but green and orange are a better combination)," Legarda said.
The lady senator, who has declared she is running for vice-president under the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC) party, will be running on a "green" or pro-environment platform in the 2010 national elections.
The color theme of Villar, who is running for president under the Nacionalista Party (NP), is orange.
Villar and Legarda have said that they will be announcing their running mates before the end of the month.
The billionaire senator earlier said that aside from Legarda, he is also considering Sen. Francis "Chiz" Escudero as his running mate. Escudero recently bolted the NPC and remains mum on whether he will run for president.
If the Villar-Loren tandem pushes through, it would doom a Lakas-Kampi-CMD coalition with the NPC.
Lakas-Kampi-CMD presidential bet Gilbert Teodoro, who trails in the presidential surveys, is still in search of a viable running mate.
The Lakas-Kampi-CMD party is in talks with the NPC for a coalition after Escudero left his party.
The young senator was supposed to be the NPC's presidential bet and running mate of Legarda.
Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita earlier said there was a strong possibility that the NPC might be convinced to enter into a coalition with the Lakas-Kampi-CMD. -- Reports from ANC and Mario Dumaual, ABS-CBN News
