MANILA - Former Makati Mayor Elenita Binay, the wife of Vice President Jejomar Binay, on Tuesday posted P70,000 bail at the Sandiganbayan Third Division for the graft and malversation charges filed against her.
Binay posted bail even if an arrest warrant has yet to be issued by the anti-graft court.
She requested permission to leave the country, saying she has to seek medical help abroad.
The graft and malversation complaints against Binay are in connection with the alleged anomalous purchase of nearly P9 million worth of medical equipment for the Ospital ng Makati (OsMak) when she was still the mayor of the city.
The complaints were dismissed more than two years ago, but were revived earlier this year by the Office of the Ombudsman.
The Binay family said the revival of the complaints is an attempt to discredit them ahead of the 2016 elections.
