MANILA - Ret. Col. Billy Bibit, one of the founding members of the Rebolusyonaryong Alyansang Makabayan (RAM) and the Guardians Brotherhood, died Sunday after being hospitalized for the past three years.

Mary "Rosebud" Ong, a state witness against Sen. Panfilo Lacson, said Bibit died at 9:52 p.m. on Sunday. Bibit was the former security handler of Ong.

Bibit's body lies at Chapel 6 of the Heritage Park in Fort Bonifacio.

A member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class of 1972, Bibit was a close ally of fellow RAM founder Sen. Gregorio 'Gringo' Honasan.

The RAM staged several coup attempts against the Aquino administration.

Bibit ran for Congress in 1992 but lost.

He was appointed by the late President Aquino to the Bureau of Customs, and he also served in the Economic Intelligence and Investigation Bureau during the early years of the Arroyo administration. - report from Noel Alamar, dzMM
