MANILA - Lawyer Lorna Kapunan blasted claims her client, businesswoman Janet Napoles, is paving the way for hospital arrest in order to skip the pork barrel scam investigation in the Senate.
Kapunan said Napoles, who is detained at the Fort Sto. Domingo in Sta. Rosa, Laguna for an illegal detention case, is not just showing physical manifestations of poor health, but is also suffering from “psychological…a breaking down of her spirit.”
"It’s not so much of a health issue, it’s already psychological. She’s locked in her room at night, without any family member close to her. She’s imagining things," Kapunan said in an interview on radio DZMM.
Kapunan said Napoles imagines “snipers” lurking outside her detention room with no windows.
She said Napoles was never alone in her life, nor locked inside a room. “Can you imagine the psychological pressure on her?”
She said that when her visitors go home, Napoles “talks to herself already.”
“How many times can you pray the rosary? She prays 5,000 rosaries everyday. She reads the Holy Bible backward and forward. She’s singing the mass to herself. This is breaking her down and I hope it’s not the intention of the people who had her detained," she added.
Is Napoles losing her mind? Kapunan said, “she still has control of her senses. There’s just a breaking down of the spirit.”
Napoles was rushed to the hospital early Thursday after complaining of stomach ache. Her attending doctors at Fort Sto. Domingo also said she suffered from nausea and vomiting and subsequently allowed her to go to the Southern Luzon Hospital also in Sta. Rosa.
She has since gone back to Fort Sto. Domingo.
Kapunan said they have already requested the head of the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force to allow someone, a family member or close friend, to stay with Napoles while in detention.
