MANILA, Philippines - Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Sixto Brillantes protested reports that a Senate panel plans to investigate the cancellation of accreditations of party-list groups.

Brillantes was asked about reports that Senator Aquilino Pimentel III, chair of the committee on election reforms, will investigate the cancellations amid complaints from party-list groups.

Brillantes said the Comelec is a quasi-judicial body.

The poll chief  announced the cancellation of the accreditation of AANGAT Tayo, even as they are preparing to rule on the accreditation of 20 other existing groups.

Brillantes said the poll body is taking care in writing its decisions since it will be questioned in the Supreme Court.
