MANILA -- Davao City Rodrigo Duterte denied on Friday night that he would eventually be a substitute candidate for Martin Diño, who, at the last minute, filed a certificate of candidacy (COC) for president under their party, PDP-Laban.

'Pag sinabi ko 'yun, and if it's really stated in public, or semi-public, that's it. So wala nang substitute-substitute. Hindi naman ako pang substitute eh, pang-original ako, bakit ako gawing substitute?" he told dzMM in an interview after the period for the filing of COCs closed.

Duterte also denied he was in Manila to file his COC. He said he stayed at home in Davao City on Friday. "Hindi naman ako lumalabas eh," he said.

He also said "leaders" in Manila were aware that he was in Davao City.

Mawalan pa 'yung Davao City ng mayor," he added, referring to the private plane, allegedly sent by a certain "Secretary Alvarez," that was supposed to bring him to Manila.

According to Duterte, rumors that he was going to run for president came from questions journalists often ask him.

"Pero kapag nagtatanong kasi sila, 'If you were president...,' ganun kasi ang predicate nila eh," he said.

He also reiterated that he was going around the country just to promote federalism as a solution to the problems of Mindanao.

SARA'S HEAD, COC

Duterte added that people misinterpreted the reason why his daughter, Sara, shaved her head.

Finactor-in ni Inday 'yung mga 'DuIt DuIt' just to, hindi naman spite, but sarcasm na bakit, leave my father alone. Kasi walang makinarya, walang pera.

"Para bang ganito eh, o, wala kang pera, wala kang makinarya, bakit gusto mo? Sige, do it. Ganun 'yun. 'Yung pakalbo niya to protest 'yung mga taong pinipilit," Duterte said.

He also explained why Sara posted a photo of her COC.

It was really intended to be a sarcastic remark. Wala kang pera, wala kang makinarya. Gusto mo ba matalo? O sige, just do it." Alam naman niya na hindi ako tatakbo."

What Sara did was her way to save herself and her family from those attacking them on social media, he said.
