MANILA, Philippines - Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago is showing what feisty means, even when she's sick in bed.

In a press release, the lady senator told all her critics and enemies to “Please post all death threats on my Facebook wall.”

In her privilege speech on Wednesday, Santiago alleged that Charlie “Atong” Ang was still the top jueteng lord in the country.

“If we as a people do not rouse ourselves from our stupor, someday the Philippine president will be elected on the basis of who gets the biggest jueteng contribution,” said Santiago, who took a 1-day break from her indefinite leave to specifically address the issue.

She is suffering from hyperthyroidism and is currently confined in her Quezon City house.

Her speech supposedly provoked some quarters, noting that she has further attracted death threats.

Santiago had routed all her calls to her Quezon City office.

The senator’s executive assistant, Sandy Schala, and administrative head, Matilde Fuentes, had received messages ranging from “take it easy on the operators and the PNP” to “she should present
witnesses or shut up” and even “she should resign or else.”

Apparently, Santiago is not irked.

She was widely quoted in the past, saying: “I eat death threats for breakfast.”
