MANILA, Philippines - New Bilibid Prisons’ (NBP) Superintendent Richard Schwarkohf said former military comptroller Carlos Garcia will remain at the NBP Hospital for 5 days as part of their quarantine procedure for new inmates.
Garcia was brought to NBP last Friday after a detention order from the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ General Court Martial for violation of 2 Articles of War.
According to Schwarkohf, Garcia might extend his stay at the hospital considering his blood pressure shot up to 160/80.
If his condition stabilizes, Garcia will be transferred to the NBP's Reception Diagnostic Center, where he will stay for another 55 days for further documentation and procedure.
For now, Garcia is confined at the hospital's ward 2 along with 40 other inmates.
Schwarkohf said Garcia is complying with the penitentiary rules such as wearing the NBP orange shirt. The official said Garcia was visited by his lead counsel and his younger sister Merciditas last Saturday.
Meanwhile, NBP Hospital Chief Dr. Ernesto Tamayo said Garcia is now on a strict diet watch by eating foods with low salt, low fat content.
Garcia is also joining co-inmates in calisthenics and brisk walking during the morning routine exercises.
