Senator Grace Poe-Llamanzares and Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago
MANILA - Senator Grace Poe on Wednesday thanked Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago for saying that she is one of three choices of the latter to become her possible running-mate in the 2016 polls.
In an interview, Poe said she is honored by Santiago's statement but said she is not aspiring for higher office in the next election.
She said she is praying for Santiago to fully recover from lung cancer.
"At this point… I'm not even considering higher office. I'm no planning for such. As a junior senator, my focus now is really to prove myself, which I am trying to do. I am endeavoring to do that in my work… It's still a year and a half from now. Marami pang pwedeng mangyari," she said.
Santiago earlier told reporters she is thinking of running for president in the 2016 polls if she continues to recover from her illness. She said medical exams showed 80 percent of the cancer tumors in her body are gone.
If she runs, she said she is looking at Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, former Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro, or Poe as a possible running-mate.
"Maybe we can have two women running together, president and vice-president. How about that, ladies? Maybe it's Miriam and Grace. It just sounds like a restaurant," she said.
"Miriam and Grace sounds so charming," she added.
