MANILA - Budget Secretary and Liberal Party (LP) stalwart Butch Abad believes "patience is a virtue" in waiting for Senator Grace Poe decision whether to accept the offer to be the running mate of administration standard bearer, Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas.

This, despite the time Poe is taking in deciding her political plans.

"Seeing her as the best option (for the vice presidency), patience will be a virtue," Abad said Thursday.

"I think she would still be the best option in so far as the vice presidential tandem for Secretary Roxas who is the standard bearer. Being that, the party is going to be patient. The filing for certificate of candidacy would still be October 12 to 16. There's ample time," he said.

Abad is also not bothered by Poe's behavior. Poe has been going around the country.

"Expectedly she's leading the surveys, therefore it's but natural to expect her to run for president. She herself said she has not decided whether to run for higher office or to run at all until she makes up her mind, and that will be soon. We will take our cue from that," he said.

Abad expects the political parties to start talking about coalition building once the race is clear and there is a clear set of challengers.

"All the coalition negotiations will happen once the candidates have firmed, once we know who are in play, once the terrain has simplified. To speak about coalitions before that, I don't think that's realistic. All the parties are going to wait for how the race will shape up then the coalition negotiations will take place."

He said the LP continues to reach out to their current coalition partners to get them to stay.

"We hope that and we have been in constant touch with the parties who have been part of the administration coalition, trying to interest them to continue the coalition," said Abad.

In the Lower House, the administration coalition is composed of the LP, Nacionalista Party (NP), National Unity Party (NUP), Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC), and the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) of Vice President Jejomar Binay.

However, Binay has already declared his plan to run for president against Roxas.
