Hillary Clinton mourns Cory's death 1MANILA - US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton extended her condolences to the family of former President Corazon “Cory” Aquino who passed away Saturday morning after battling colon cancer.

“I wrote her a note just a few weeks ago when I heard that she was so sick. I admired her greatly. She was a woman of courage who loved her country,” said Mrs. Clinton.

ABS-CBN North America News Bureau chief Ging Reyes interviewed Clinton who expressed deep sadness over the death of Aquino.


“She and her family sacrificed so much to try to give the people, the Philippines a better future and I think she is an inspiration not only to the Philippines but to people everywhere who believe in the right values and positive future,” Clinton added.

ABS-CBN North America News Bureau also interviewed US Ambassador to the Philippines Kristie Kenney who was shocked to learn of the news of the demise of the former president.

“I actually knew President Cory personally and she was warm and wonderful with me. As a person I knew her as a former president who is interested in her foundation, her family and I think that's a lost for all of us. I know millions of Americans will mourn her death,” said Kenney.

President Arroyo, who is in the US, expressed her condolences to the Aquino family..

Arroyo recently had a meeting with US President Obama. She and her Philippine delegation left their hotel in Washington DC around 7 p.m. (US time) to proceed to New York, Reyes reported.

Meanwhile, Gen. Delfin Lorenzana, the Veterans’ Affairs head of the Philippine Embassy was saddened by Aquino’s death.

Lorenza was a former member of the Presidential Security Group and served Aquino from 1989 until 1991.

“Naaalala daw niya na napaka-motherly ni Gng. Aquino sa kanila,” said Reyes.
