MANILA - President Benigno Aquino III will formally endorse Interior Secretary Mar Roxas on Friday as his bet for President in the 2016 elections, the Palace confirmed on Thursday.
In a media advisory, the Palace said Aquino will announce his support for Roxas at an event dubbed "A Gathering of Friends" scheduled on Friday morning in Club Filipino in San Juan City.
Roxas will then give an acceptance message that will be followed by him and the President shaking hands.
The event will be attended by around 500 people composed of various leaders from different political parties, representatives from civil society and organizations, national and local government officials and staff, and other guests, the Palace said.
Roxas gave way to Aquino in the 2010 presidential elections after Cory Aquino's death in August 1, 2009 generated a clamor for her son to run.
Roxas was Aquino's running mate in 2010 but lost to Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay in the vice presidential race.
