MANILA -- Senator Ralph Recto believes his wife, Batangas Governor Vilma Santos, is the best among the names being floated for the presidency.
However, Recto said his wife is not interested in running for higher office.
"Best among them would be Vilma, though," said Recto in jest.
''If she were interested, I would support her. I've always supported her in any of her endeavors. If she were interested for vice president I'd tell her, 'Why not presidency? Why the vice presidency?' She's not interested."
Recto noted his wife has vast executive experience. Prior to her nearly 9 years as provincial governor, Vilma Santos was also city mayor of Lipa for 3 terms.
"No doubt. Precisely, bakit VP pa? Bakit senador? Presidente na lang. She's been mayor for 9 years, governor for 9 years. She's a Lingkod Bayan awardee," the senator said.
Recto added, "I don't see her changing her mind but if she wanted to run – she's not ambitious - if she wanted to run, I'd be the first to support her. I'd be the first to apply as her VP."
Santos has been floated as a possible running-mate to both Interior Secretary Mar Roxas and Vice-President Jejomar Binay.
