MANILA, Philippines - More rain is expected to pour down in Metro Manila and Luzon this weekend as a new tropical depression has formed near Batanes, state weather bureau PAGASA said Saturday.
PAGASA has called the new tropical depression "Goring."
Goring is expected to continue enhancing the southwest monsoon, which will bring rains over Luzon, particularly over its western section, the weather bureau said.
As of 4 p.m. Saturday, the tropical depression was spotted 400 kilometers north-northeast of Basco, Batanes.
Goring is packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center, according to PAGASA.
It is moving west-northwest at 7 kph and is expected to be 410 km north of Basco, Batanes or 110 km southwest of Taipei, Taiwan by Sunday afternoon.
PAGASA did not raise any public storm warning signal.
PAGASA is also monitoring another low pressure area 320 km east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur on Saturday.
"The public and the disaster coordinating councils concerned are advised to take appropriate actions," the weather bureau said.
PAGASA will issue its next severe weather bulletin at 11 p.m. - with report from Bettina Magsaysay, ANC
