MANILA - Caloocan Rep. Edgar Erice said Tuesday that the ruling Liberal Party (LP) is open to the idea of Manny Pacquiao joining its senatorial line up.
In an interview on ANC's "Beyond Politics with Lynda Jumilla" on Tuesday, Erice said other LP members are endorsing the Saranggani representative.
"There's a lot of LP members who are really endorsing him (Pacquiao)," said Erice, who is also LP's chairman for political affairs.
The party official, however, clarified that they are also looking at other candidates.
"Maraming mga gusto sumama sa slate, pero siyempre there will be a screening process," Erice added.
Erice also took the opportunity to take a swipe at the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) headed by Vice President Jejomar Binay.
He compared the opposition party to a "sinking ship."
"Except for Cong. Pacquiao, parang has-beens na andu'n eh," Erice said, referring to UNA's party launch a week ago.
"Puro former (politicians), parang pag papalubog na ang barko, wala nang sumasakay," he said.
The lawmaker from Caloocan also joked about Pacquiao's standing in senatorial surveys.
"Kung sa survey, makikita mo, hindi naman ganun kataas ang survey ni Cong. Pacquiao, nasa top 12. Pero kung sa (LP-led) coalition s'ya, sa palagay ko, nasa top 6 s'ya," Erice said.
