MANILA, Philippines - While Quezon City Representative Feliciano “Sonny” Belmonte, Jr. has virtually secured the House Speaker position, party-mate Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan needs 4 more votes for his own bid in the Senate.
Pangilinan needs to woo some more of his colleagues to ensure a win as Senate President, Liberal Party spokesman Lorenzo “Erin” Tañada III said.
Pangilinan earlier said the “natural allies” would be key to his securing the post.
The natural allies include incumbent Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile and Senators Francis Escudero, Vicente Sotto III, Gregorio Honasan, Sergio Osmeña III and Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada, Jr.
On the other hand, Tañada said 144 of the 287 members of the House of Representative have already guaranteed their support for Belmonte.
Tañada, also the Quezon Province 4th District Rep., earlier gave up his bid for the House Speakership position to prevent division among the LP members.
He said members of rival parties Nationalist People’s Coalition, Nacionalista Party as well as from the Lakas-Kampi-CMD and other party-list groups have given their nods to Belmonte.
