MANILA - Novaliches Bishop Emeritus Teodoro Bacani is calling on Budget Secretary Florencio “Butch” Abad to step down amid his alleged links in the pork scam.
In an interview with Radio Veritas, Bacani said the allegations against Abad have weight amid the inclusion of his name on several lists.
Businesswoman Janet Napoles claimed Abad taught her the ropes in the modus operandi.
Malacanang defended Abad, saying some quarters are just using him to criticize President Benigno Aquino III.
Abad himself denied any wrongdoing.
Reports citing the testimony of whistleblower Merlita Sunas, however, claimed Abad was indeed part of the scam.
He said at this point in time, the government needs to restore the public’s trust in its officials.
Bacani also slammed the nepotism in government, which supposedly favors the Abads in public office.
There are allegedly 11 Abads in government.
