MANILA - Detained Senator Jinggoy Estrada is asking the Sandiganbayan to allow him to leave the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center to celebrate his mother's birthday.
In a motion submitted Friday, Estrada requested for a four-hour furlough on June 4, from 8 p.m. to 12 m.n., to attend a thanksgiving mass and dinner for her mother, Loi Ejercito, who will be celebrating her 84th birthday, at 409 Shaw Boulevard, Mandaluyong City.
"For all the years of accused's life the Estrada family have been always together on this special occasion except last year when accused was not allowed by court," the motion read.
"(Estrada) now makes the appeal to the Court with hope that the Court and the prosecution will understand the humanitarian need for a family to be together with friends on this occasion."
Aside from this, Estrada has another pending motion for furlough to wind up his affairs and supervise and oversee the segregation of his personal and office belongings as his term ends in Senate.
The senator initially asked to visit the Senate from May 30 to June 2, but later changed the requested dates to June 6 to 8 during a hearing.
Estrada has spent almost half of his term detained at the PNP Custodial Center for plunder over his alleged misuse of his Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF).
He is accused of pocketing P183.793 million in public funds after diverting his PDAF to a "non-existent" and "unaccredited" non-government organization which failed to deliver the supposed assistance to beneficiaries from 2004 to 2012.
