MANILA, Philippines - With the turnover of power to a new administration on June 30 and the apparent victory of leading presidential bet Sen. Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III, the Liberal Party has formed a search committee that will screen possible candidates for key positions in the Aquino administration.

According to an ABS-CBN News source, among those being recommended for Aquino's Cabinet are former Agriculture Secretary Leonardo Montemayor and Ramon Magsaysay Awardee and Naga City Mayor Jesse Robredo for the Department of Interior and Local Government.

Sen. Aquino once discussed with winning vice-presidential bet Makati City Mayor Jejomar "Jojo" Binay the possibility of appointing him to the DILG post before he decided to be the running mate of former President Joseph Estrada as guest candidate of the Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino.

Among those being considered for retention are Health Secretary Esperanza Cabral and Energy Secretary Jose Ibazeta.

There are also those recommending the return to the Cabinet of former Health Secretary Jaime Galvez Tan.

Senator Aquino said the party is still in the process of forming a search committee, which will go through the applicants for Cabinet posts and other top government positions.

Former Civil Service Commission (CSC) chairman Karina Constantino David is said to be part of the search committee.

The Liberal Party has been flooded with text messages and resumes from people wanting to be part of the new Aquino administration.

LP campaign manager Florencio "Butch" Abad said they have received more than a hundred applications, some from new faces, some from former Cabinet members.

Abad said Sen. Aquino prefers new faces than old ones for his Cabinet.
The committee is expected to start its work of building the Aquino Cabinet next week. -- with a report from Maricar Bautista, ABS-CBN News; ANC
