MANILA - Malacañang said the administration’s senatorial slate remains intact even after Senator Loren Legarda had indicated that a fellow administration candidate is behind a black propaganda against her.
Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said there is no rift within the slate and that the President’s statement of support for Legarda Monday was not meant to prevent a withdrawal of the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC) from the coalition.
“Those may just be assumptions. In the first place, we don’t agree that there are cracks or… a rift, perhaps, in the administration slate. We’ve always been of the position that the slate is solid and this is reflected in their standings in the surveys,” Valte told reporters.
She said there are no plans for the President to speak to Legarda and the fellow candidate to patch things up, pointing out that Legarda has not identified the fellow candidate by name.
“Which other candidate? Remember that Senator Legarda never named anybody. So we don’t want to engage in any speculation when it comes to these things. But the President has not mentioned any intent to speak to another candidate about this particular issue,” Valte said.
