Former President Corazon Aquino was released from the Makati Medical Center on Thursday afternoon, where she was confined after undergoing an operation in relation to her ongoing battle against colon cancer.
The former leader refused to face the media upon her exit, but Aquino's son, Senator Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III, said that the operation to remove the tumor in her colon was "successful."
The senator said the Aquino clan is happy over Mrs Aquino's speedy recovery from the operation.
He also released a statement to the media regarding their mother's condition.
"Our mom is now presently sitting up and walking. She is recuperating well after the surgery and today will be discharged from the hospital," the statement read.
"She is very appreciative for the excellent care she has received from the following doctors: Ayco, Lopez, Teh, Leroy, Nambayan, Divinagracia, Benitez, Abad Santors, Cayco and Alimurung," the statement said.
"She would like also like to thank the nurses and employees of Makati Medical Center," it added.
Doctors advised Mrs. Aquino to rest for three to six weeks, and have a soft diet.
She will still undergo chemotherapy and radiation therapy in the following weeks.
The Aquino family also thanked their supporters and those who prayed for the former president's recovery.
"Thank you for all the support and prayers for our mother. May we ask for your continuous prayers as she has likewise been praying for you," the statement said.
From the hospital, Mrs. Aquino went straight to the Greenmeadows residence of her daughter Ballsy. With a report from Gretchen Malalad, ABS-CBN News
