MANILA - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will no longer enforce its resolution compelling private pollsters Social Weather Stations and Pulse Asia to name their survey subscribers.
Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes said the 2 groups wrote him to ask for time to seek a restraining order from the Supreme Court.
Brillantes said the poll body decided to approve the request considering they cannot yet impose sanctions on the 2 groups.
"Because that will require official finding na ayaw nila so OK lang," he said.
The Comelec earlier ordered the 2 pollsters to name their subscribers in compliance with a provision of the Fair Elections Act requiring the disclosure of financiers of surveys.
The poll body said they will not disclose the names of survey subscribers to the public.
The United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) is asking Comelec to compel the 2 groups to name their subscribers following doubts on the reliability of the surveys.
