MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Health (DOH) has recorded a total of 18,885 dengue cases from January 1 to April 9, 2011.
Health authorities said the number is higher than the 17,945 dengue cases recorded during the same period last year.
The DOH said 115 people have died of dengue this year.
In San Lazaro Hospital in Manila, almost 200 people afflicted with dengue were confined for the whole month of April while another 23 dengue patients were confined in the first 5 days of May.
The DOH said it expects dengue cases to continue to increase as the summer gives way to the rainy season.
