MANILA -- Newly-appointed Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioners Louie Tito Guia and Al Parreño cannot assume office just yet.
Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes said they returned the appointment paper of Guia to Malacañang because it was misspelled.
He has no idea if a correction can be sent before President Benigno Aquino III leaves for an overseas trip.
On the other hand, Parreño wants to wait for his replacement at the Land Transportation and Franchise Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
Brillantes said if Parreño leaves now, the LTFRB may not function with just one remaining member.
Brillantes hopes Parreño can assume office within the week.
The poll chief previously hoped that the two new members can help them tackle the disqualification cases of 39 party-list groups which were remanded to them by the Supreme Court with new guidelines on determining who are qualified to be in the party-list race.
Brillantes said not all 39 will be subjected to hearings.
He also said the poll body is set to issue a resolution on Piston, which faces cancellation of its accreditation due to alleged failure to comply with take down notices for illegal posters.
