The rating of Senators Francis Escudero and Mar Roxas improved in the latest presidential survey of the Social Weather Stations (SWS).

In the February 20 to 23 survey, 27% of respondents recommended Vice President Noli de Castro as successor of President Arroyo in 2010.

Senator Manuel Villar had 26%, and Senator Loren Legarda had 25%.

The ratings of all three dropped slightly from the December survey.

Escudero came in fourth with 23% or 4% higher than the previous survey, while Roxas came in fifth at 15% or 5% higher.

The five were followed by Senator Panfilo Lacson, former President Joseph Estrada, and Senator Miriam Santiago.

Thirteen percent could not give any answer to the SWS survey question on who they would recommend to succeed President Arroyo.

Seven percent had no one to recommend.

The SWS said its First Quarter of 2009 survey was conducted over February 20-23, 2009 using face-to-face interviews of 1,200 adults. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3%.

SWS said the survey item on the recommended leaders to succeed Pres. Arroyo was not commissioned, but was done on SWS's own initiative and released as a public service. -- report from ANC
