MANILA -- Malacanang on Wednesday clarified that President Benigno Aquino III still has not made his choice for the standard bearer of the Liberal Party in the 2016 elections.
Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said everyone should wait for Aquino to announce it at a proper time.
"The President already said in one of the ambush interviews that he will announce it at the proper time. So let's wait 'til the President's final imprimatur kung ano ba talaga, who his choice will be, and let's just wait for that. Kasi we can hear other people saying but it's not the President," Lacierda said.
Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) Secretary Jun Abaya, LP's acting president, on Tuesday said that Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Mar Roxas remains the frontrunner to become the standard bearer of the party in 2016.
"Sa LP, alam niyo naman ang kasagutan ko diyan, kung sino ang magdadala ng bandera ng LP, si Secretary Roxas po yun. Nagmi-meeting ho kami para itulak at isulong itong pananaw ng partido," Abaya had said.
But According to Lacierda, Abaya's statement was only based on his personal opinion primarily because the party has yet to start its process in choosing its standard bearer.
