MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang on Wednesday said it is leaving it up to the Commission on Elections to decide on what technology to use in the 2013 midterm elections.

Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda said the Comelec is an independent Constitutional commission.

The Comelec en banc earlier voted to purchase the Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machines of Smartmatic International for the May 2013 midterm polls despite questions about alleged glitches in the machines.

Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes said Smartmatic has already started correcting the glitches that were seen in the 2010 elections.
