MANILA - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday began its hearing on the cancellation of the accreditation of party-list groups found with repeated violations of campaign poster rules.
The Comelec en banc, presided by Chairman Sixto Brillantes and Commissioners Elias Yusoph, Christian Robert Lim and Grace Padaca, heard the complaints filed by the law department against LPGMA, PISTON, and Kabataan.
The complaints stem from their alleged failure to remove posters in prohibited areas despite notices by the Comelec.
Lawyers of the 3 party-list groups will present their defense next week before the cases are submitted for resolution.
The Comelec law department presented monitoring personnel, as well as election officers, as witnesses.
Brillantes expects the commission to rule on the cases in the next 2 weeks.
The Comelec will continue hearings on Monday.
The Comelec said it can cancel party-list accreditations for violation of election laws.
