MANILA -- Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin "Junjun" Binay Jr. said he and his supporters do no resort to pettiness and name-calling, something he believes Interior and Local Government Sec. Mar Roxas failed to do.

This, after Roxas called Binay's camp "immature" for asking him to serve the suspension order himself.

In a statement released Saturday, Mayor Binay said he expected Roxas to show some maturity, being a lot older than him.

"We understand the situation of Secretary Roxas. He is under a lot of stress. We are also undergoing a stressful situation but we rise above it. We do not resort to pettiness and name-calling. Secretary Roxas is a lot older than me. I would have expected him to show some maturity," he said.

He also said Roxas was being petty and condescending for calling his appeal "juvenile mentality."

"I find his description of our decision to bring the Ombudsman's irregular and unlawful order before the courts as 'juvenile mentality' petty and condescending. It also betrays either an ignorance of or total disregard for the rule of law and due process," he said.

"Questioning an unlawful order before the courts is part of due process. Questioning before the courts the undue haste of the Ombudsman in ordering my suspension is part of due process. We respect the law and due process and it is precisely the reason why we raised this matter before the Court of Appeals."

The younger Binay believes what he and his family are currently going through is all about the 2016 elections, where his father, Vice President Jejomar Binay, is expected to run for president.

"The DILG chief should stop pontificating about the law. This is all about politics. This is all about the 2016 presidential elections, Secretary Roxas," Binay said.

Binay has been defying the suspension order from the Office of the Ombudsman, and has been staying inside his office at the 21st floor of the Makati City Hall since Thursday.

Roxas earlier criticized the younger Binay for linking him to the preventive suspension order, saying he has never spoken to Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales.

He also said the insinuation that he had something to do with the suspension shows what the Binay camp thinks of the Ombudsman.

"Parang sirang plaka na yan. Ugali talaga yan, parang pattern e.
