MANILA, Philippines – Senator Joker Arroyo on Monday called on members of the House of Representatives to submit to them a simplified and shortened version of the Articles of Impeachment against Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez.
Arroyo, who was one of the prosecutors during the impeachment trial of former President Joseph Estrada, said tackling 6 impeachment complaints would take the Senate a year and hamper senators' legislative work.
"What is important is really the quality of evidence, not the volume," he told reporters.
Arroyo said even 1 article of impeachment will do as long as it is very strong.
Meanwhile, the Senate on Monday approved on third and final reading 2 bills and 1 resolution.
Senate Bill 2671 - Career Executive System Act of 2011 by Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV. This bill seeks to minimize political appointments and ensure that all government officials are eligible under the Civil Service Law;
Senate Bill 2726 - An Act Decriminalizing Vagrancy Amending for this Purpose Article 202 of the Revised Penal Code by Sen. Francis Escudero; and
Senate Resolution 414, which concurs with the ratification of the agreement on technical cooperation between the Philippines and Japan.
