Corona prosecutors' dads get gov't posts

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) - President Benigno Aquino has appointed the fathers of 2 members of the House prosecution panel in the Corona impeachment trial to two government posts.

He namely Wigberto Tañada as chairman and member to the board of directors of UCPB-CIIF Oil Mills Group, and Jorge L. Banal as acting member in the board of directors of Poro Point Management Corp.

Wigberto is the father of Lorenzo "Erin" Tanada III, one of the spokespersons in the House prosecution team.

Palace deputy spokesperson Abigail Valte clarified Monday night that the officials were appointed before the Corona trial began.

"They were appointed in August 2011, but only took their oaths today," she said on Twitter.

Banal is the father of Quezon City Rep. Jorge Banal Jr., who was identified by a Philippine Savings Bank (PSBank) manager as having inquired into Corona's dollar accounts.

The notable personalities who took their oath before President Aquino on Monday were:

Wigberto Tañada: Chairman and member, Board of Directors, UCPB-CIIF Oil Mills Group: In Granexport Manufacturing Corp, Cagayan de Oro Oil Company and Iligan Cocounut Industries, Inc.

Jesus Lim Arranza: Member, Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer, UCPB-CIIF Oil Mills Group: In San Pablo Manufacturing Corp., Southern Luzon Coconut Oil Mill and Legaspi Oil Company, Inc.

Ives Q. Nisce: Acting Chairman and Acting Member, Board of Directors, Poro Point Management Corporation

Felicito Payumo and Jorge L. Banal (father to Bolet): Acting Members, Board of Directors, Poro Point Management Corporation

Jamie Eloise M. Agbayani: Acting President/ CEO, John Hay Management Corporation

Angel Lopez Castaño: Chairman, Philippine Racing Commission (PHILRACOM).
