MANILA – The Sandiganbayan Fifth Division has denied the motion of former APEC party-list Rep. Edgar Valdez to be detained at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center in Camp Crame.

Instead, the anti-graft court ordered Valdez, who is facing a plunder case in connection with the pork barrel scam, transferred Camp Bagong Diwa.

Valdez, in a motion submitted by his lawyer, said he needs to be detained near a hospital because of a bullet lodged in his body.

The anti-graft court, however, said it was not convinced that Valdez's detention at the Taguig facility will worsen his situation.

The court also noted that the medical report submitted by Valdez was dated July 8, 2013.

Valdez surrendered last February 25 to the Sandiganbayan, which issued a warrant for his arrest over plunder.

The anti-graft court has found probable cause to try Valdez, who represented the Association of Philippine Electric Cooperatives, for his supposed involvement in the pork barrel scam allegedly masterminded by Janet Lim-Napoles.

Valdez is accused of pocketing at least P57.787 million in kickbacks from alleged ghost projects funded through his congressional Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) from 2004 to 2010.
