MANILA - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is eyeing a proposal to require candidates to post bonds in order to remove the nuisance candidates in 2016.
Comelec Commissioner Lucenito Tagle said the poll body is already studying its feasibility as well as the amount needed to be paid by the candidate.
He said there is no need for a law to impose the bond payment. He said the same is already being done in South Korea and India.
Based on the initial plan, the candidate will have to pay the bond upon filing of his or her Certificate of Candidacy. The bond will be returned after the elections. – from a report by Noel Alamar, dzMM
