MANILA, Philippines - If Malacañang doesn't want to prioritize the Freedom of Information (FOI) Bill, then both houses of Congress must.

Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano made this call to his fellow lawmakers on Tuesday, as he expressed disappointment over the FOI Bill's exclusion from President Aquino's list of priority measures.

"I think it is a good time for the Senate and the House of Representatives to show that we are an independent branch in government.

Cayetano said the FOI Bill would help remove corruption in government aside from ensuring transparency and efficiency in all of its transactions.
